Good afternoon, how can I help with SSDs?
I'm currently trying to upgrade my gaming pc and use old parts and some new to build one for my young nephew. For a young 10 year old kid who will play mainly TF2, Gary's Mod, CSGO, etc. to have an SSD?
If you go with a relatively inexpensive one, absolutely, boot time and load level time will be between 50% and 75% faster.
which would you recommend?
Now, I currently have a 250gb ssd and a 1.5tb hard drive in my pc. What kind of improvements would I see if I got rid of the hard drive and added another SSD? possibly transfering my old SSD to my nephews pc
my old hard drive to my nephews pc sorry
What are you using the HDD for now, just file storage, or do you have programs installed over to it?
Currently a few movies, and a few games.
the games I play the most are on the SSD though
Ok, if you have games installed over to it, you would see some improvements, but not much at all. That's how I'm set up too, and I've tried dual SSDs, one for OS, one for programs and it really was only about 10% faster, not worth the headache. You might want to just replace your current OS SSD with a larger one, get all the games on it, and give your nephew your old one. Probably the fastest overall for you both that way.
Awesome thank you, that what I was leaning towards but was not sure if it was worth it. Now would you recommend the 850 evo 500gb?
Sequential transfer on the 850 EVO is good but IOPS which is random data transfer and seek speed isn't quite as fast as it could be.
If you like Samsung, like I do, the 850 Pro will actually be better fo ryou.
The Crucial MX200 and the Sandisk Ultra II are the other two that are right up there over 100K IOPS.
Awesome, thank you for your time, sir. Been gaming a lot more recently due to a recent motorcycle accident and I realized quickly I had to upgrade. Thank you!
My pleasure, that's what we're here for, and hopefully you heal fast and well! I haven't been on a bike in about 15 years since a buddy got rolled over by a big rig and dragged for about a mile and a half, but I do miss it.
I had an elderly man run a stop sign and I couldn't stop in time. Been a rough 4 months now, but I'm hoping to be able to get back to work by new years and be riding track only by feb.
Well best of luck to you! Stay SAFE, and have a very Merry Christmas!
