Hi
I am trying to determine what 2 bay qnap NAS to buy
Micheal T.
Welcome to NewEgg, I'm Mike! How can I help? Are you checking out our Nas systems?
I have read the reviews and sounds like QNAP NAS are rated high
Micheal T.
Qnap makes really good systems
IN terms of my needs - I am trying to set up a home cloud to store pictures and videos and music
Micheal T.
I would check this out
I would also like to connect it to TV and have it accessible from phones outside the home
Micheal T.
That would work fine
what are the more expensive ones that can stream HDMI and have aremote?>
whats the difference between the two that you sent me?
Micheal T.
The last one I linked is twice as fast, has HDMI out put and is a stronger system
what are the pros for this one over the last one you sent me - http://www.newegg.com/Product...
Micheal T.
If you are looking to go eeen above this
This has the remote controle as well
Oh i think you sent me the same one i was looking at for you
That one is an even more powerful nas system
yes - do the only benefit is that is has a remote control. Any other benefits?
Micheal T.
It works even when there is no internet, will still support your wireless cloud,
And the range on it is better
how does the music and video streaming work from the NAS to our phones and TV?
Is there an app required or it is a matter of accessing a web base file system and playing the audio or video file?
Micheal T.
There is no app required it is all something you set up all the information will come with the book that comes with it
ok - what is PLEX?
Micheal T.
Plex is a centralized home media playback system with a powerful central server–the Plex Media Server–that streams its media to many Plex player Apps. The Server is available on many platforms like Windows, OS X, and many flavors of Linux, as well as many NAS devices like ReadyNAS or Synology.
so I need a PLEX to play back audio or video from the NAS?
Micheal T.
no it comes with it
yep, I understand. But the first link that you sent me did not have PLEX. Therefore, it seems that I would have to get one of the last two links you sent me to support audio and video. Correct?
Micheal T.
because it didn't come with the Plex support meaning it didn't have access to use Qnaps Plex applications on the Qnap website
so how is this playback system different than just streaming video from NAS? OR are you saying, that I need NAS with PLEX support to stream videos?
Micheal T.
only for long distance
it helps you access the cloud when you are far away from your system
got it - remote support.
great
last question
what hard drives should I get for the $339 one?
don't want anything elaborate but would like some data duplication to prevent data looss
Micheal T.
Depends on the space you need
ok - what are the popular home capacity options?
You still there?
Micheal T.
Yes I am
depends most people use 6-12 GB
TB*
ok - is there a guide on the website that shows number of pictures to capacity?
Micheal T.
Not that I know of
lets say 1 pic is 5MB, so 1 GB will hold 200 pics and 1 TB will hold 200,000 pics
Right?
Micheal T.
Assuming that the avg size photo is 500K, then a 1TB HD will hold around 2 million photos. The arithmetic is easy: 1TB = 1000 gb = 1000000 mb = 1000000000 kilobytes. Divide 500 kilobytes into that for 2000000
would I need 1 or 2?
drives I meant
Micheal T.
I would start with 1
if you start filling it up with movies then you can expand
ok - does having 1 increase risk of losing data if there is an issue with the drive?
I don't understand data duplication process so wanted to knonw
Micheal T.
For that you have HDD And both of them have the same information , it is a great way to back up your system and protect your information
so HDD is different from the disk?
Micheal T.
HDD is the disk
ok I thought so. You said "both"?
Micheal T.
Both as in you have 2 HDD
Think of them like identical twins
yes, so having 1 HDD would cause me to lose data if anything goes wrong with the hardware? Therefore I would need 2 HDD?
Micheal T.
You don't "need" but it is helpful. http://www.newegg.com/Product...
this would work for you?
Was there anything else I could help you with? I have to get going shortly = <
So if I get 1 HDD, how can I reduce risk of data loss?
Micheal T.
ITs really not as big of a risk as you think it is
ok
last Q - this Seagate NAS HDD is compatible with the QNAP NAS?
Micheal T.
Yes it is, its made to work with Qnap
All of the Size options will work with that drive
and it is a really solid drive
ok thanks so much for your help today
that will be it
Micheal T.
Its my pleasure = )
Have yourself a great day and please review when you close chat
= )
sure
byw
Micheal T.
Thank you
Micheal T.
