Q. visitor asked, Hi. Starting to look for xmas gifts for 11 and 13 year old. One wants an Xbox One and the other a PS4. Was wondering if better off getting one gaming computer (yes, I know they will fight over it but would it be better and wouldn't they be able to download the same games as they would on Xbox and PS4?). Have around $600 to spend and not sure if I can find something that won't be laggy and a disappointment. HELP!!. And I could use it as a regular PC also.. He's into Skyrim, GTA, but not Halo. She wanted some game that said remastered in the title but can't remember which one.. lay it on me!. b-4 tax $731 and shipping?

good afternoon and welcome to Newegg! can I help you find a gaming PC?
Hi. HELP!!
And I could use it as a regular PC also.

Ok, that one is bit tricky. For games, many of the same titles you will find on Xbox One and PS4 will be available for PC as well, but you won't be able to get any of the console exclusives ( Halo, Uncharted ). On the plus side, a PC just plays games better and you also have access to a wide variety of titles you can't find anywhere else.
for a $600 budget, you can put together a decent machine
let me show you our system builder:

He's into Skyrim, GTA, but not Halo. She wanted some game that said remastered in the title but can't remember which one.
Nathan R.
ok, then exclusives aren't really a big issue. The build I'd recommend comes in at a little over $600, but it makes sure you're equipped to play everything out there
lay it on me!
Nathan R.
if you take that standard build, up the RAM to 8gb and chose the R9 270 for your graphics card, you have a desktop that will play everything ( and do it well ) for a total of $731
It comes with a mouse and keyboard, so you're covered there...and you'll be able to use xbox or playstation controllers with it
b-4 tax $731 and shipping?
Nathan R.
before tax, yes...depending on where you are, there may not be tax applied. Shipping you can get for free
can you use Xbox live with it?
live in Illinois
Nathan R.
xbox live can't be used on a PC...but, the upside is that you never have to pay a fee for online multiplayer
Steam is free and it's a great gaming community
so he won't be able to talk to his friends while playing right? Because he loves to do that!
familiar with Steam
Nathan R.
if you upgrade to windows 10 after your system arrives, he will be able to chat with his friends through the xbox app
ok-not sure how to do that but maybe he does. Also, was reading online that Fallout can only be played on Windows 7. Does windows 10 interfere with downloading games?
Nathan R.
not at all. and you can always run games in compatibility mode with older versions of Windows if you're having trouble with it
Can we still get a good computer for $650 mark or what's your thoughts?
Nathan R.
for $650, you're pushing the limits of what can do with more demanding games. This build makes sure you're prepared
with that in mind, the baeuaty of gaming PCs is that you can upgrade at any point
so with this build-no lagging, or other issues involved. Just straight forward gaming.
Nathan R.
exactly
ok. Have to keep this in mind for next month. Problem is, have to have money for monitor so will see who I can rob in the meantime! I really appreciate your time. Is there any way you can email this information so I can have it when I decide to order? Also, what is the latest date that I should order to get by xmas?
is there enough room to put in MS office also?
Nathan R.
you can get great monitors for not much more than $100...and as long as your TV supports HDMI, you can plug your PC into a TV as well. I can't email you the link, but you can bookmark it so you'll have it for when you need it...I recommend ordering soon ( by mid November at the latest ) to ensure delivery by Christmas
Thanks!
Nathan R.
For MS Office, are you looking for a perpetual license or subscription?
Forgot about the TV. Steal the one out of the camper! perpetual
Nathan R.
ok, let me look for MS Office and see if we have a deal on that
one moment
there are several versions of Office available:

ok-will look into. Something I want and my daughter will probably need next year for High School. Can always add later right?
Nathan R.
absolutely. you can also start with a subscription package for around $10 a month and then get the full license later if you like
Is there a warranty that comes with this or do I have to buy one like some stores have
meaning, the computer
Nathan R.
you're covered by a one year limited warranty and you have the option to add premium coverage for $44
sounds good. Hey thanks for your patience and help Nathan. Very much appreciated-have a great day!
Nathan R.
you're welcome and you too!
