Welcome to LeisurePro. I'm here to be your personal equipment consultant. Let's get started picking out the perfect gear for you!
I am having trouble deciding between a compass, computer, and SPG or 3 in 1 type configuration etc
oh ok
I can help you with that
I personally like a wrist mount compass because it's simply easier to use
and move around then compared to when it is console mounted
i would suggest getting a wrist mounted compass and then a 2 gauge console
can I help you pick some items out?
Are you there?
Tusa 3 Gauge Analog Console (SCA-330)
Are you still with me?
yes
Can i make some recommendations that are personal favorites?
cool!
there you are
do you have a budget for these purchases?
yes, but I would like a computer. I am planning on buying Scubapro BCD and reg from you. I heard that if I buy the computer from Scubapro as well then I get free parts when I service
oh...cool. no problem. you will get the same warranty through us if you buy scubapro products
ya but I live in Canada
oh ok
its more for parts on service of reg etc.
i see
so this is what I got picked and what I was thinking...Mk 25 S600 reg, Knighthawk BCD, Octo R295.
this 3 guage console will work well with your bcd. do you realize it doesn't come with a computer though?
Then either the Suunto Vyper or the Scubapro Aladin. then a 2 gauge
I use the Suunto Vyper and love it.
but then I was like you get, the wrist compass and just a SPG
right
you can do that too
but then I dont get the free service from Scuba pro
right.
so what would you recommend for SPG and hose on their own, and what would you recommend for compass wrist
I this this TUSA 3 gauge is nice for on their own - I've seen it in person and it's very compact
something good for a recreational diver
yes
let me go find a compass now
but isnt a 3 gauge SPG, Compass and depth?
yes
i though you wanted me to recommend a wrist mounted compass?
What is it that you want me to help you with today?
i did, so why would I want a 3 gauge?
I'm not sure I understand your question
Solo SPG recommendation, compass recomendation and computer recomendation
ok. no probem
the Suunto Vyper is what i would go with for the computer
all solo units
k
ok

thehighland thin line spg will be much smallers than the cressi when it comes to being streamline
but you will need to buy a hose to go with it
what do you mount the compass to, BCD?
my wrist
oh and it stays level like a watch?
yep
the bungees are really nice - easier to get on than the strap versions
I use a drysuit with dry gloves...will it still work?
oh yeah
having a bungee is actually ideal for dry suit diving
because it will stretch as air goes in and how of your suit - way better than the plastic strap kind
ok, now how durable is the highland SPG with no rubber?
i use it myself
over 200 dives with it and no issues
you can buy a rubber boot for it
but i prefer without it
here is the boot that can be added to it - even with this the spg is more streamline than the cressi

ok so last question on this topic. If you had choice, Tusa 3 gauge or wrist compass with SPG on its own?
wrist compas with spg on its own
that's how I dive and love it that way
no quality issues for how they work?
nope...never had a single problem
highlight is top ntch
and am I at any risk relying on a computer for depth or is that the boneus of having the back up of depth on an analog gauge?
i've done 400 dives with my suunto and never had an issue - i don't use backup depth gauges for it
it's just a bonus I guess. but i don't use it
ok. thanks. Im sold on this. Now fins?
Cool.
I dive in warm and cold water. Im a marathoner so strong legs but not a big dude. Now sure where to begin as Im told temp makes a difference
i haven't found that to be the case
i do suggest you get a stiffer fin since you're in a drysuit
you will need to make your kicks count for something
a flexible fin tends not to do that as much
do you have a budget for the fins?
no
but I dont need the best. just dont want @#$%
ok...no worries.

what is the size of your foot?
10 drysuit
but 10 barefoot
ok
AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins Regular Silver/Blue
and why?
these are adjustable on the flexibility
so they will transition great for when you have and don't have a drysuit on

they seem almost too tech looking. Whats the difference between, split fins and I have seen shorter fater stiff fins?
the split fins are meant for people with joint pain
you kick more but they go through the water easier
unless you have joint pain, I suggest staying away from them
the shorter fatting fins will help propel you through the water more effeciently
but are they more work?
a little
i am not a big person and i use stiffer fins without issue
the fact that you are a marathoner - you won't have issues with the shorter fatter fins
do they weigh more for travel? or all similar
they do weigh a bit more
any ideas for those or do you stand by the aqua lung?
I personally think these aqualung will be the best for you - my friend wears them when diving in Florida and also uses them in a drysuit in colder water
he loves them and adjusting the flexibility is super quick - no more than 30 seconds
could you show me the shorter fins too?
sure

this fins are super super stiff though - my husband tried them. he's 6 foot 2, 220 lbs, and a US Marine - he didn't like them at all
